Chinese businessmen will respond this February 11 before the Oversight Commission for the Chifagate case

The Congressional Oversight Commission will continue this week with the proceedings linked to the so-called case Chifagate. This was reported by its president, Elvis Vergarawho detailed that this Wednesday the Secretariat of the Presidency will go to Parliament as part of the ongoing investigations and the Chinese businessmen involved have also been summoned.

“The Minister of the Interior is also coming to respond to issues of citizen insecurity (…) honestly, in my personal opinion, I have not been satisfied with today’s responses. In two days, some others involved will come and finally on the 11th, Chinese businessmen will come. However, next week we will have the necessary inputs to ask to be empowered by an investigative commission,” he said.

Vergara He specified that the summons is part of the information gathering stage carried out by the working group, with the aim of clarifying the alleged irregularities related to meetings and coordination between Executive officials and businessmen of Chinese origin.

The list of Chinese businessmen cited includes Zhihua Yangidentified as a central actor in the ChifaGate case for his unrecorded meetings with President José Jerí; Ji Wu Xiaodongbusinessman mentioned in tax, judicial and parliamentary investigations; as well as Jingyu Li and Dai Yanpeilinked to the company China Road and Bridge Corporation Peru Branch. It has also been identified Li Hon Bingwho spread videos of the Symphony Gala held at the Grand National Theater in December 2025 on social networks.

The head of Supervision maintained that the summons seek to determine political and administrative responsibilities, as well as to establish whether norms on transparency and the correct exercise of public functions were violated.

Tiburcio admitted that he accompanied the president in a meeting held in a chifa in San Borja and described the situation as a “political error,” while the Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that the hydroelectric project Pachachaca 2concessioned to a company linked to Yang, has not shown physical progress and the request for an extension submitted shortly before the meeting was rejected.

During the session, congressmen, such as Second Montalvo of Peru Librethey accused the Minister of the Interior of falsifying information similar to that of the president, and even proposed discussing a vacancy motion against Jerí, given the lack of clarity and contradictions in the official explanations.
