The residents of the Santa Ana neighborhood and the entire department of Chinandega were mocked, hoping to enjoy the summer vacations in the water park that the Sandinista mayor’s office announced it would inaugurate last February but the work has not been finished.
However, following guidelines from El Carmen, in Managua, the residence of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, the local Chinandegana administration has announced the construction of a new stadium. The residents complain that the announcements are pompous, but that the works end up disappointing in the end, “and that, if they are finished.”
At this time, with a two-month lag, what can be seen in “the happily announced” water park is barely 30 percent removal of the land and construction equipment parked in the background, where the work that the Chinandegans hoped to inaugurate would be. in Holy Week, recently.

According to local government publications, released in November 2022, construction was scheduled to be completed last February, and access to the public for beach vacations would be open in April. The residents of the Santa Ana neighborhood and other neighboring towns in the West were left wanting to relieve the heat of these days in the two announced pools and the giant slides that would be installed. But none of that ended.
Park costs chinandegans 15 million
According to the technical sheet of the work, which the official media happily spread with the message that it would change the lives of Chinandegans, the project has an investment of 15 million córdobas that includes a perimeter wall, facade and access, showers, games children, dressing rooms, bathrooms, kiosks, platforms, ornamental structures and lighting, as well as painting.
The Hospital de la Caridad, later San Vicente de Paul, and in the 1990s the Maternal and Child Hospital “Mauricio Abdala” stood on its land for more than 130 years. It was demolished to make a park, and last year the expansion of the work was announced as an enlarged water park.
The old colonial structure was demolished in 2014 and the park was built on its land, which they said would be its first phase under the name of Rubén Darío, Universal Poet.
“We are waiting for you for Easter, it was the last thing the local authorities told the residents, but who knows what happened, only they know their rolls. They came to do the circus on April 1st to inaugurate, according to the first stage, and if you see there there is nothing. There is nothing like a water park,” said a chinandegano who lives near the place annoyed.
New work, without finishing the previous one
While the work on the water park is still unfinished, the construction of a soccer stadium that this town lacks was announced this Wednesday. In 2010, there was the inauguration of a piece of land for a modern soccer stadium, but the next day, several residents took over the land and spoiled the project.
The new soccer stadium, according to the local authorities, is promoted by the Nicaraguan Sports Institute (IND) and the municipalities of Managua and Chinandega, with a capacity of 1,200 fans. It will have an athletics track, gym, changing rooms, toilets, lighting, parking lots and exterior works.
The announced new stadium will bear the name of Vidal Alonzo, a football promoter who worked on it in the sixties, seventies and eighties. The construction of the new stadium will begin, according to the official media, next June with an investment of 275 million córdobas.
