The Chinese government officially reopened its embassy in Nicaragua on Friday after the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
According to Telesur, the reopening of the diplomatic legation of the Asian nation occurred through a reception and a toast at the facilities between representatives of the two countries.
Nicaragua and China resumed diplomatic relations on December 10, after the Central American nation broke ties with the island of Taiwan, as a sign of respect for the One China principle, raised by Beijing.
During the Sandinista government, the Central American country established diplomatic ties with China in 1985, which were broken in the early 1990s with the coming to power of neoliberal regimes.
The reopening ceremony was led by the counselor of the Chinese embassy, Yu Bo, by the Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada and the presidential adviser for the Promotion of Investments, Trade and International Cooperation, Laureano Ortega.
Moncada, in a speech, highlighted the struggle that both peoples had for their national liberation and their commitment to seek prosperity, the eradication of poverty and harmonious coexistence.
“Both peoples and governments develop our relations on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, the dignity and territorial integrity of the States, their right to development and to have social security systems,” he said.
