China enables 183 Brazilian companies to export coffee to the country

China has enabled 183 new Brazilian coffee companies to export the product to the country. The announcement was made by China’s embassy in Brazil on social networks. According to the publication, the measure is valid for five years and entered into force from July 30, the same day The United States signed the order that officialized the tariff against Brazil.China enables 183 Brazilian companies to export coffee to the country

During the week, a post already had product numbers in the Chinese market. Liquid coffee imports in the country grew 13.08 thousand tons between 2020 and 2024. And the growth potential is measured by the fact that per capita consumption is 16 cups/year, well below the global average of 240. “Coffee has been gaining space in the daily life of Chinese”, celebrates the publication.

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Board of Coffee Exporters of Brazil (Cecafe) have not yet spoken on the matter.

The announcement occurs in a moment of uncertainty for product exporters. Donald Trump’s government has announced that, from August 6, the export of Brazilian coffee to the United States will be taxed by 50%.

The United States is the main destination for product exports. In 2024, they imported about 23% of Brazilian coffee, especially from the Arabian variety, an essential input for the local roasting industry.

In the first six months of 2025, coffee exports to the US totaled 3,316,287 60 -pound bags. While the country leads product purchases, China occupies the tenth place in this ranking. In the same period, 529,709 bags of 60 pounds to the Asian country were exported. A number 6.2 times lower than the volume sold to the US. The data is from Cecafé.

According to researchers at the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), Luiz de Queiroz Higher School of Agriculture (Esalq) of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazilian producers can be forced to redirect part of their production to other markets. This should require “logistics agility and commercial strategy to mitigate damage to the national production chain”.

Tariff

United States President Donald Trump officialized, on Wednesday (30), the proposal for taxation of Brazilian products sold with the US. But the executive order brought about 700 exceptions, such as orange juice and pulp, fuels, ores, fertilizers and civil aircraft.

Coffee did not enter this list of exceptions. As a result, right after Trump’s announcement, Cecafé said it will follow dealings to be included in the list of Brazilian products that will be left out of taxation.
