The talks, co-chaired by U.S. Undersecretary for International Trade Marisa Lago, are the second this year involving the two officials and come amid heightened trade tensions between the two powers.
Earlier this week, China’s Ministry of Commerce said the US should lift all tariffs on Chinese goods, ahead of the Biden administration announcing a planned increase in levies on Chinese-made goods, including electric vehicles.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Chinese ministry said the two sides had held “professional, rational and pragmatic” talks on political and business issues raised by business communities in both countries.
He added that China was focused on expressing concerns over issues such as US tariffs on Chinese goods, and said China was opposed to the implementation of trade and investment restrictions under the pretext of overcapacity.
