China is the latest country to apply a “Covid zero” strategy, which consists of eradicating cases with confinements and massive tests. But the figures of the pandemic in recent months have put this policy to the test.
The great city of Shanghai, the economic center of the east of the country, was forced into a confinement for several months and in Beijing, the capital, distance education and teleworking prevail.
The Beijing authorities relaxed several restrictions earlier in the weekbut the appearance of dozens of new cases led the authorities to reimpose them.
Specifically, there is an outbreak of 115 cases related to a bar, said Liu Xiaofeng, municipal health officer.
In Shanghai, some 20 million people began to undergo tests from this Saturday, less than two weeks after the strict confinement that disgusted and outraged the inhabitants.
This Saturday, China recorded a total of 138 new cases of Covid-19almost half of them in Beijing, according to official figures.
