China asked the World Health Organization (WHO) to “abandon political interference” and to investigate the origin of the coronavirus “in several countries”.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus this week urged China and other countries to share their data transparently.
“Tracing the origin of the virus is a common responsibility of all countries,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said in response, adding that her country “has shared the largest amount of research data and has made the largest contribution to the international community.”
Mao pointed out that the Asian country “has twice received international experts from the WHO to cooperate in the tracing work” of the source of the coronavirus.

Likewise, the spokeswoman accused the United States of “criticizing and making irresponsible comments about the WHO’s investigative work”, referring to statements such as those made this month by the director of the US federal police (FBI), Christopher Wray, who He claimed that the pandemic was “probably” caused by a leak in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan (center).
For its part, the WHO expert group investigating the origin of the coronavirus recently raised the possibility that the raccoon dogan animal that was sold in the Wuhan market where the pandemic began, was key in the transmission of the pathogen to humans.
The international organization emphasized this month that the different hypotheses about the origin of the coronavirus, which has caused almost 7 million deaths worldwide, remain valid.
