The Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, announced this Wednesday (18) the authorization of 11 Brazilian meatpacking plants for Indonesia, in addition to the lifting of the suspension of three plants for China. Fávaro met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at the Planalto Palace, to update the portfolio’s measures.
“I can assure you that the favorable mood for Brazil has returned. The good winds of the world economy are looking at Brazil differently. Since 2019, Brazil did not have a license for plants to export meat to China”, the minister told journalists after meeting with the president.
The possibility of opening is for a cattle and two poultry slaughtering companies. In the case of Indonesia, all new permits are for bovine plants.
Cotton
Also announced today was the opening of the year’s first market, which is cotton lint exports to Egypt. Negotiations to open the market began in 2006 and intensified from 2020, now resulting in the opening of the market.
According to the minister, this opening represents recognition of the quality of the Brazilian product. “Who doesn’t want to buy a shirt or a sheet with the quality of Egyptian cotton? If Brazil is going to export to Egypt, it means that it has quality, credibility and respect. Upon receiving this authorization to export to Egypt, we received the seal of quality for Brazilian cotton for the whole world,” he said.
Egypt imports approximately 120,000 tons of cotton lint annually, with Greece, Burkina Faso, Benin and Sudan as the main suppliers. Brazil may benefit from a window of opportunity between the months of July and September, as Greek exports only start in October, the ministry said.
It is estimated that Brazil has the potential to meet, in principle, 20% to 25% of Egyptian demand, calculates the ministry.
