This morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonia Urrejola, participated in the activities led by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, together with authorities from various portfolios and the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores, within the framework of the commemoration of the International Day of the Worker and Worker.
In the instance, the President announced that he will seek to ratify Convention 190 of the International Labor Organization on the elimination of violence and harassment in the workplace.
“We believe that this is a very important advance that will favor all workers, both in the public and private sectors, in order to create work spaces where the rights of all are respected and ensured in their daily lives” , said Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola.
Convention 190, which was adopted in June 2019 at the International Labor Conference, is the first international regulation that addresses gender-based violence and harassment in the workplace. In this way, it seeks to advance in the construction of a healthier working life that protects workers regardless of their contractual situation.
The Foreign Minister highlighted that the instrument has been ratified by 12 countries, including Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay, and stressed that the Foreign Ministry will work jointly with the Ministry of Labor so that it is adopted and enters into force as soon as possible. possible.
“This agreement applies to all workers and is also, therefore, applicable to both men and women and groups of sexual diversity. It is precisely about creating a work environment free of violence and harassment in its broadest sense”, stated the Minister.
This announcement is in line with the Government’s commitment to promote a feminist foreign policy that embraces, with concrete actions, the current gender gap.
