Chile rejects Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela’s president-elect

Chilean President Gabriel Boric on Wednesday addressed the results of the elections in Venezuela, saying he has no doubt that the Nicolás Maduro regime has attempted to commit fraud and is also committing serious human rights violations.

He said that his government does not recognize Nicolás Maduro as the elected president of Venezuela due to this fraud: “If they had clearly won, they would have shown the famous minutes,” he stressed at a press conference.

The Chilean leader said he does not recognize “Maduro’s self-proclaimed victory” because he does not trust the independence and impartiality of Venezuela’s electoral institutions.

Boric said they will not validate results that have not been verified by independent international organizations.
