Chilean President Gabriel Boric has demanded the publication of the electoral records in order to recognise the results of the July 28 elections. However, despite the international community’s demand, the Venezuelan authorities have not published the disaggregated data.
González Urrutia’s departure from Venezuela took place on the night of Saturday, September 7.after spending several weeks sheltered in the Dutch Embassy and later in the Spanish diplomatic headquarters.
The opposition presidential candidate was accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of allegedly committing several crimes related to the electoral process of July 28 and threatened with imprisonment.
Maria Corina Machado, leader of the Venezuelan opposition, and political leaders said that Gonzalez Urrutia’s decision will guarantee his life and freedom. They assured that the fight to defend the election results of July 28, in which they say the opposition was victorious, will continue. They asked not to fall into the hopeless message that the government is trying to impose.
