“We have a pretty good opportunity to be able to qualify for a World Cup, we know how important it is,” said Navas upon his arrival in Qatar to join the training camp for his team.
“We have to take it responsibly, but above all with great joy that we have everything to be able to win,” added the PSG star in an exclusive interview with the Costa Rican portal Yashinquesada.com.
“We’re going with everything, eagerly, calmly, wanting to enjoy ourselves, hopefully things turn out well for us and that we can win that match”, he stated.
Costa Rica and New Zealand will play next Tuesday, in Doha, the playoff match for Qatar-2022. The winner will keep the last ticket at stake for the World Cup, where they will be seeded in Group E, along with Germany, Spain and Japan.
On Monday, Costa Rica was bid farewell by hundreds of fans, with country flags and national team jerseys, who took to the streets to see the bus pass with the players and the technical team on its way to the airport, in the midst of an atmosphere of euphoria.
“The group is quite united, we have made a selection where each one knows very well what their role is, that is always very important,” said the goalkeeper.
However, he downplayed the stellar role he has played during the octagonal past of Concacaf, where those led by Colombian Luis Fernando Suárez managed to reach the playoffs after a spectacular comeback during the second phase of the World Cup.
