Chile draws inspiration from Uruguay’s educational transformation as it debates its own reform

The president of the Central Board of Directors (Codicen), Robert Silvatraveled to Chile to present to the authorities of that country on education reform led by the government of Luis Lacalle Pou.

Silva’s presentation comes as Chileans debate how to carry out their own transformation, one of President Gabriel Boric’s priorities.

The trans-Andean country is often cited by Uruguayan politicians and academics as an example in the region for its educational results, particularly in the PISA tests and the increase in the level of high school graduation. In the agreement, both countries recognized the “importance of establishing a legal framework that promotes cooperation and the exchange of experiences,” according to a statement released after the meeting.

In addition, collaboration was agreed in several areas, such as “school management”, “curricular organization”, “promoting reading and writing practices”, “language teaching” and “application of educational technologies”.
