Children’s league baseball tournament closed in Zambrana

Sánchez Ramírez.-Barrick Pueblo Viejo and the Houston Astros major league team successfully closed the second children’s league tournament held in the Zambrana Municipal District, which took place for more than two months and had the participation of 4 teams made up of children and young people from the communities near the mine.

The participating teams were Arroyo Vuelta, Tojín, El Limpio and Sabana del Rey. Each team, in turn, brings together the 289 participants from the Palo de Cuaba, Tocoa, La Piñita, La Cerca, Las Lagunas, Tres Bocas, El Higo, El Naranjo, Corosito, Los Jobos, Cabeza del Hoyo, and San Marcos communities. , El Cotorro, La Caoba, La Jagua, La Cabirma, Jiminillo, La Cueva, El Mango, El Maricao, Jobo Claro and Guardianón.

The closing tournament, which was held at the El Limpio baseball park, was attended by authorities from the province, executives from Pueblo Viejo, the Houston Astros and the RBI in the Dominican Republic, as well as the parents and relatives of the athletes.

The recognitions, in the category of 7 to 10 years old, were given to more than 100 children belonging to all the communities and in the categories of 11 to 13 and 14 to 16 years old they were given to the young people of La Cabirma, Jiminillo, La Cave, El Mango and El Maricao.

In the Reviving Baseball or RBI program, launched in 2021 by Barrick Pueblo Viejo and the Houston Astros, to date more than 23 million pesos have been invested for its different activities, including the rehabilitation and renovation of the Arroyo Vuelta, Sabana del Rey, Tojín and El Limpio baseball parks, as well as work sessions with parents and guardians of children and young people to support sports and healthy family development.

Trainings have also been carried out, delivery of shirts, sports equipment and first aid for the coaches. This program has benefited more than 500 people, directly and indirectly, from 29 communities of the Zambrana Municipal District.

Among the authorities present were Cristiana Rodríguez, governor of the Sánchez Ramírez province, Ramón Elpidio Santana, director of the Zambrana Municipal District; Pedro Agramonte, president of the Zambrana Sports Council, Narciso Morales, president of the Cotuí Sports Union. Representing the Houston Astros was Caridad Cabrera, Director of Operations for Latin America; Félix de Jesús, RBI National Coordinator and Andrew Briggs representing Pueblo Viejo.
