Children of the Rainbow Foundation wins award at Sustainable Peru summit

In a context marked by inequality, informality and the urgent need to build trust between institutions and citizens, Lima was the scene of the Sustainable Peru Summitthe country’s main sustainability forum and festival.

This meeting, which celebrates the 30 years of the organization, brought together representatives of the private sector, civil society, businesses and non-governmental organizations with a shared purpose: to generate spaces for dialogue and action to face the main environmental, social and economic challenges of Peru.

Under the motto “Charting the future of the country, together”, the Summit was chaired by María Pía Palacios, former president of Caja Arequipa, and Jaime Saavedra, director of Human Development at the World Bank. Both leaders emphasized the need to accelerate the impact initiatives that are currently being developed in different regions of the country.

“Inequality, ineffective decentralization, weak institutions and mistrust mark our pending agenda as a country. Added to this are illegality, informality and corruption. However, today there are already concrete initiatives that bring together the public sector, companies, civil society and academia to promote comprehensive solutions,” said Jaime Saavedra, inviting the strengthening and continuity of multi-stakeholder efforts.

For her part, María Pía Palacios reaffirmed the importance of integrating the various regional realities in decision-making and sustainable projects:

“Peru has a privileged geography and decisive regions for sustainable development. The Summit not only invites reflection: it will show the multi-stakeholder work underway. We want to build bridges under a common vision and urgently accelerate progress towards the country’s sustainable development.”

Recognition of initiatives with social impact

Within the framework of the Summit, the “Despegamos con Impacto” award was awarded, an initiative by Latam Airlines aimed at highlighting and strengthening social projects in Peruvian territory. This year, the winning organization was the Children of the Rainbow Foundation, known for its work in education, health and community strengthening in high Andean areas.
