Doctors from the El Carmen and Daniel Alcides Carrión de Huancayo hospitals warned of the risk that minors run of suffering poisoning, among other health problems.

“At these parties, children consume too many sweets and carbohydrates that can cause food poisoning, patients arrive at the hospital due to vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, dehydration and this can be avoided with adequate food consumption,” said the resident in Pediatrics at El Carmen Hospital, Carlos Brañez.
He mentioned that children’s parties should be celebrated with a healthy diet and avoid, for example, the consumption of soda or drinks with excess sugar.
The endocrinologist at the Carrión hospital, Francisco Meza Legua, recalled that the pandemic has left us with a high rate of overweight and obesity in children, which is around 10%.

The specialist warned that children are falling into poor nutrition, because the consumption of carbohydrates is prioritized, before vegetable proteins and minerals, which are essential for their development.
He explained that there are now minors with high cholesterol and triglycerides and that show symptoms of fatty liver, which predisposes to diabetes. He pointed out that processed foods are cheap and accessible, but parents need to assess the harm involved in giving them to their children.
