After the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the United States gave the “green light” to the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines so that they begin to administer the vaccine against Covid-19 to children from 6 months of age, the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, explained that Panama is evaluating applying the doses to this age population.
The minister stressed that within two weeks the arrival of the first shipment of these pediatric doses to the country could be finalized.
“The indications of the president is that work is already underway on the acquisition of these doses, in fact, a team is already making contact with Pfizer in the United States so that Panama can have access quickly,” said Sucre.
In addition to this, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) highlighted that they continue to analyze the elimination of the mandatory use of masks in closed spaces and that once the results of the evaluations are available, this proposal will be submitted to the executive; “Thank God we have been covering patients who get complicated, the health facilities are prepared if any situation worsens due to Covid-19, so far the last wave we are in is being controlled and in that sense it can be considered ”, he declared.
He recommended to the population that, despite the fact that this provision is lifted, those who are at greater risk of infection, such as older adults or patients with comorbidities, should continue to use the mask.
He emphasized that medications have already been purchased to prevent complications such as molnupiravir and paxlovid, the latter began distribution on Monday morning.
