The Paraguayan exporter and presidential candidate José Chilavert appealed the sentence to one year in prison with suspension of the execution of the sentence imposed by a judge for defaming the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, and requested its “absolute annulment”.

This was reported this Thursday by the defense of the former player, who the day before filed an appeal against the sentence imposed last May by Judge Manuel Aguirre.

Specifically, the lawyers Pedro Wilson Marinoni and Cristián Ayala they appealed, among others, the jurisdiction of the single-person sentencing court presided over by Aguirre, as well as the declaration of the existence of the “punishable act of defamation“.

They also appealed the sentence to a one-year custodial sentence, with probationary suspension of the execution of the sentence for a period of two years.

The ruling included the ban on leaving the country and changing residence, as well as the obligation to sign the appearance book every three months.

In addition, it stipulated that Chilavert not make allusions “by any means of communication” that could be considered and qualified as “mendacious” and “humiliating.” against Dominguez.

The contested judgment is based on the non-observance and/or the erroneous application of the legal precepts and the specific violation of basic fundamental principles of law that lead to the ABSOLUTE NULLITY of the sentence,” reads the letter.

In addition, it requests that “the case be forwarded for a new oral and public trial.”

The demand of the president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) was based on expressions made by Chilavert on social networks, between September and December 2020.

Chilavert has accused Domínguez of corruption through his Twitter account and in different media in Argentina and Paraguay.

His assertions are not limited to Domínguez’s current role, but from the time he was president of the Paraguayan Football Association (APF), between 2011 and 2014.
