The slaughter of chickens fell 1.8% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. In the opposite direction, the slaughter of cattle rose 4.7% and swine, 7.2%.
The figures are from preliminary data from the Livestock Production Statistics, a survey released today (12), in Rio de Janeiro, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Full results for the first quarter of 2022 will be released on June 8.
Preliminary data also indicate that the number of cattle slaughtered in the quarter totaled 6.91 million. Pigs, on the other hand, reached 13.64 million and chickens, 1.54 billion heads.
According to the IBGE, if compared to the last quarter of last year, the slaughter of chickens grew 0.1%. In the same comparison, the slaughter of cattle advanced a similar percentage, while that of pigs had a high of 2%.
The total number of cattle slaughtered in the first quarter of this year indicates, in the preliminary result, a production of 1.82 million tons of carcasses, which means an increase of 5.2% compared to the same period in 2021. 4.5% compared to the last quarter of the same year.
The accumulated weight of pig carcasses reached 1.24 million tons, representing an increase of 6.7% compared to the first quarter of last year and 1.8% to the fourth quarter of 2021.
In chicken carcasses, the accumulated weight was 3.76 million tons. In the annual comparison, it represents an increase of 2.4%, and an increase of 1.9% compared to the last quarter of 2021.
eggs and milk
The purchase of raw milk by establishments that operate under municipal, state or federal health inspection reached 5.88 billion liters in the first quarter of 2022, which means a drop of 10.5% compared to the same period of the previous year, and a decrease of 8.9% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021.
The production of chicken eggs totaled 963.82 million dozen. It is a decrease of 2.3% in the annual comparison and 2.8% in the quarterly comparison.
Tanneries
According to the same survey, tanneries that tan at least 5,000 whole units of raw bovine hide per year declared to have received 7.08 million whole pieces of rawhide in the first quarter of this year. “This amount was 0.2% lower compared to the same period in 2021 and 1.9% lower than that recorded in the last quarter of last year”, reported the IBGE.
