Despite this increase, Midagri stressed that the price of chicken remained stable in the markets over the last nine days. César Santisteban, Director of Statistics, Monitoring and Policy Evaluation of the Ministry, attributed the recent increase to greater demand in the sector.
The Midagri spokesman expressed confidence that the price of chicken will be regularized in the coming days. In addition, a message of reassurance has been transmitted to entrepreneurs, housewives and merchants, indicating that fluctuations in the price of chicken are usually short-lived, with a maximum period of fifteen days. These variations are generally related to factors such as the end of the month and the availability of cash in the market.
Price of chicken in retail market
The supply of chicken in Lima has been sufficient to satisfy the needs of consumers. In the capital’s collection centers, the price of chicken has remained at a minimum of 7.10 soles per kilogram, the same as the price of eggs in the wholesale market.
Midagri reports that in most retail markets in Metropolitan Lima, an adequate supply of chicken has been observed, with surpluses being minimal. Demand for poultry meat usually increases during the weekends, which has led to the entry of 10,104 tons of chicken at the close of September 5, 3% more than in the same month of the previous year.
