News Colombia.
The cost of living is a key factor when choosing a place to live. Although every year the prices of goods and services increase, not all cities reflect the same impact.
According to the latest report by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), there are three cities of warm climate in Colombia where the price increase has been minimal, which makes them attractive options for those who seek economic stability.
Variation of the CPI in January 2025
The consumer price index (CPI) measures the changes in the cost of the products and services of the basic basket. In January 2025, the variation of the CPI in Colombia was 0.94%, a significant increase compared to December 0.46%, 2024.
However, some cities have maintained a low variation, indicating greater prices stability.
The 3 cheapest cities in Colombia in 2025
The Dane study reveals that Neiva, Valledupar and Riohacha are the cities with the lowest variation of the CPI in January 2025, which makes them the most affordable in the country:
- Neiva: 0.14%
- Valledupar: 0.44%
- Riohacha: 0.48%
Other cities with low increases include Sincelejo (0.50%) and Montería (0.51%). These figures indicate that the products of the basic basket in these areas have had minimal adjustments, which benefits consumers by maintaining a lower cost of living.
How is IPC measured?
The Bank of the Republic emphasizes that the DANE monitors 38 cities monthly, collecting data in more than 55,000 distribution points, including supermarkets, neighborhood stores, market places and specialized shops. This allows to evaluate price trends and the impact on the economy of Colombian households.

On the other hand, some cities recorded the greatest increases in the CPI:
- Bucaramanga: 1.76%
- Santa Marta: 1.36%
- Tunja: 1.08%
- Medellín: 1.05%
The rise in Bucaramanga is mainly driven by the increase in public transport (11.72%), followed by products such as fresh fruits, bird meats, foods in restaurants and rental costs.
