Chavista regime and Unitarian Platform hold meeting to reactivate negotiations in Mexico

Parliamentarian Jorge Rodríguez reported this Tuesday that the delegation of the Nicolás Maduro regime maintains its demand that Colombian businessman Álex Saab, imprisoned in the United States for conspiracy to launder money, be part of the negotiation process in Mexico.

Representatives of the Nicolás Maduro regime and the Unitarian Platform, which brings together opposition political organizations, announced this Tuesday “formal talks” to achieve the restart of negotiations in Mexico.

This was announced by the president of the Chavista National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguezthrough his account on the social network twitter, where he indicates that he held a work meeting for “future plans, in the rescue of the spirit of Mexico”, along with a photo in the company of the opposition leader Gerard Blyde.

“In my capacity as representative of the delegation of the Bolivarian government of Venezuela for the dialogue processes, I have held a meeting with Dr. Gerardo Blyde to seek action formulas for the future,” Rodríguez said, while insisting on the importance of the development of social issues “that are of the main interest of our people”.

Likewise, the parliamentarian reported on Tuesday that the delegation of the Nicolás Maduro regime maintains its demand that Colombian businessman Álex Saab, imprisoned in the United States for conspiracy to launder money, be part of the negotiation process in Mexico.

“Alex Saab is a full member of the Venezuelan delegation and he is our delegate at the social table that we are discussing (…) In this sense, Venezuela has demanded, demands and will demand the participation of Alex Saab in any of the work initiatives that eventually remember,” he said.

For his part, Blyde published a statement stating that the talks with his counterpart “will include meetings and discussions” in order to agree on the necessary elements for the prompt restart of the negotiation process “which should not have been suspended.”

Likewise, in the document, the Unitary Platform reiterates its willingness to “urgently” build a great political agreement that allows the recovery of the country through democratic re-institutionalization, while insisting on the holding of free, fair and transparent elections; as well as the restitution of fundamental rights.

“We maintain our commitment to inform and communicate to Venezuelans with opportunity and transparency any progress in this regard,” the letter points out.

After the announcement of the talks, the president of the National Assembly elected in 2015, Juan Guaidó, described as “urgent” to carry out a comprehensive agreement for the country “that provides solutions to the tragedy and addresses the complex humanitarian emergency.”

In the same way, the deputy insisted on the urgency of immediately restarting the Mexican mechanism in favor of Venezuelans, “aware of how they have been used before by the dictatorship, that is why international accompaniment and strengthening unity are also key to achieve real solutions.

“For Venezuelans, time is counted in lives. An Agreement is urgently needed to attend to the emergency, do justice, re-institutionalize the country and have conditions for free and fair elections, with guarantees for all sectors. Our sole objective is to save Venezuela,” he said.

On March 7, the Venezuelan ruler Nicholas Maduro announced the restart of talks with the country’s oppositionwhich have been unilaterally paralyzed since last October 2021, after the extradition of Colombian businessman Alex Saab to the United States.

“We have decided to reactivate the process of national dialogue with all political, religious, cultural factors in the country,” he said. “The dialogue in Mexico received a blow as you know, but if we are asking for dialogue for the world, we are going to reformat the national dialogue process. More inclusive, more comprehensive”.
