In Brazil, former president Jair Bolsonaro and several high-ranking military officers were accused of the crimes of “violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état and illicit association.”
The Federal Police of Brazil filed charges this Thursday, November 21, against former president Jair Bolsonaro for the alleged coup plot that sought to overthrow the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after the 2022 elections.
The charges fall on a total of 37 people, among whom are several high-ranking Brazilian military personnel. As spread D.W.the accusation is for the crimes of “violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état and illicit association.”
Bolsonaro, who governed the country between 2019 and 2022, is among those targeted by the Federal Police, as well as some generals, former ministers and former advisors to his Government.

On the list of those accused in Brazil are Walter Braga Netto, general of the Army reserve and who was Minister of the Presidency and Defense, as well as Bolsonaro’s vice presidential candidate in 2022; and Almir Garnier Santos, former Navy commander.
The investigation confirmed the existence of a plot that acted “in a coordinated manner”, after Brazil’s 2022 presidential elections, to “try to keep” Bolsonaro in power.
This week, four soldiers and a Federal Police agent were arrested, accused of devising a plan for the assassination of Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and the Supreme Court judge, Alexandre de Moraes, investigator of the case.
