He Inegi updated the weightings this Thursday with which inflation is measured considering the consumption patterns of Mexicans.
Despite the fact that the total number of generics has been reduced to 292, Inegi will consider party packages, maintenance, security and home repair services, as well as streaming of movies and music.
Towels, curtains and other linens are also part of the new measurement, as well as clothing accessories and cilantro, epazote and parsley.
Museums and cultural sites, recreational services and nightclubs, as well as energy drinks, are some of the products on which Mexicans spend the most and together they will represent 1.22 points in the inflation measurement.
Citibanamex highlighted that the Inegi updates, which did not modify the historical series, could affect the inflation projections of the different aggregates for the coming months due to the change in the weights.
Anciola stressed that it is too early to draw a conclusion about how much the change in weights has affected inflation and what will happen in the future with the components of inflation.
Most frequent changes
Inegi said that the update of the generics is expected to be every two years, which analysts consider could be a good time to keep the inflation measurement updated.
“I think it could be positive (because) it could capture more quickly if there is any change in the consumption pattern,” said Janneth Quiroz, director of Economic Analysis at Monex.
