“It’s unfortunate to say it; you ask for information and they delay or don’t tell you everything completely. So we have already made a decision (sic),” the official said last Monday, who also stated that her management would not give a bailout to the oil company.
The head of Economy also highlighted that from 2022 to date, the State has paid S/17,000 million for Petroperú’s debts, in order to keep it afloat. For this reason, he maintained that measures will be taken so that the company stops generating expenses for Peru.
One of the decisions made at the Petroperú Shareholders’ Meeting, where the Minister of Economy is also a member, was to remove Luis Alberto Canales from the position of president, who had been in the position since just November 15 of this year. He will remain as director of the state company.
Elba Rojas Álvarez comes in to replace him, who had already been a member of the board since November. She will lead the oil company starting today, Tuesday, December 23, becoming the first woman to lead Petroperú.
Although the resume of the president of the oil company has not yet been published, it is known that the official was previously interim general manager of Distriluz, which groups the companies Electronoroeste, Electronorte, Hidrandina and Electrocentro.
Additionally, she served as general manager of Hidroandina and is an engineer by profession.
