MIAMI, United States. — Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, foreign minister of the Cuban regime, assured today that the return to dollarization in banking transactions on the island will benefit the population.
The measure, announced this Monday by the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC), “responds to the current circumstances and priorities of economic policy,” as announced by that entity in its Resolution 63 of 2023.
“The banking of the US dollar is a measure motivated by the current conditions of the country that will benefit the national economic activity and the population,” he said in Twitter the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean country.
The Castro Foreign Minister maintained, however, that the United States sanctions that “hinder external financial flows from Cuba and prevent foreign deposits of USD in cash” are still in force.
Bancarization of the USD is a measure motivated by current conditions in the country, which will benefit the national economic activity and the population, despite current US measures that hinder external financial flows of #Cuba and they prevent foreign deposits of USD in cash.

The measure represents a twist with respect to what happened almost two years ago, when the regime issued the Resolution 176 of June 2021, which prohibited the acceptance of the US dollar in cash by banks and non-bank financial institutions.
The BCC justified the new opening to the dollar with the current economic scenario that the country is going through after overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The start of the revival of tourism, the resumption of the presence of foreign visitors and the gradual recovery of productive activity and services, advises taking this step”, indicates the Resolution 63.
In statements offered to CubaNethe economist Elias Love He celebrated the decision, but considered that the arguments to justify this “reversal” movement were “false”.
“The arguments that justify this measure are false. This is a deception for Cubans, for public opinion, and we have to deny it in the most radical terms: it is not true that these factors condition or determine that a measure like this be reversed,” the expert said. based in Spain.
