The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, held a meeting with the apostolic nuncio, Alberto Ortega Martín, with the purpose of advancing initiatives aimed at democratic coexistence, protection of peace and strengthening dialogue in the country.
During the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, both the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the representative of His Holiness endorsed the importance of promoting national reconciliation and consolidating spaces of understanding between the different sectors of Venezuelan society.
The chancellor highlighted, on his Telegram channel, that these principles have been a constant priority for the Bolivarian Government, in its effort to guarantee stability and social harmony.
In the conversation, both parties also reiterated Venezuela’s commitment to defending the sovereignty of the people and respect for international law, as fundamental pillars for the construction of a world order based on peace and justice.
On Friday, The coordinator of the Program for Peace and Coexistence, Ernesto Villegas Poljak, sent a letter addressed to the Apostolic Nunciature to express their concern about the attitude of certain prelates of the local Catholic hierarchy who distance themselves from the efforts of dialogue and reconciliation in the country promoted by the National Executive.
The letter highlights that the members of the Program for Peace and Coexistence, promoted by the National Executive, have held “fruitful and cordial” meetings with the leadership of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) and the Society of Jesus. These approaches are part of a strategy to cement the meeting between diverse sectors and promote the democratic coexistence that the nation demands in the current context of 2026.
