Chancellor Gil asks Volker Türk to condemn right-wing fascist violence

Chancellor: Imperialism imposes fascism as a challenge to free peoples

The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, urged the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, to condemn the “far right” for the “violent acts” they have generated in the country, after an extremist sector refused to recognize the results of the presidential elections of July 28.

On his social media account X, Gil asked the UN representative not to be “an accomplice or protector” of those who attack innocent people with their “macabre plans.”

“High Commissioner Volker Türk avoids, with suspicious juggling, mentioning who the promoters of violence are. As we directly announced on July 3, his protégés would disregard institutions and democracy, with a violent plan of fascist nature,” he posted.

He added that Türk must directly condemn “the criminal far right, which is attacking civilians and threatening the entire Venezuelan society.”

In this way, the senior Venezuelan official responded to Volker Türk’s call to the Venezuelan authorities to respect the rights of all citizens, guaranteeing their freedom of assembly, peaceful protest and expression of opinions without fear of reprisals, according to a statement shared on X.

The UN urged authorities to ensure a framework that allows citizens to demonstrate peacefully and express their views freely, stressing the importance of maintaining an open dialogue and respecting fundamental freedoms.

The Venezuelan government has made it clear, with compelling evidence, that these protests are not peaceful in nature, after presenting videos in which they destroy public and private property and physically attack those who think differently, in addition to having carried out acts of vandalism against state institutions.
