Chancellor confirms that Peru will not allow the entry of irregular migrants through the borders

The chancellor of Peru, Hugo De Zelaassured that the Government will not allow the entry of migrants who do not meet the legal requirements, as part of a regional strategy to confront irregular migration derived from the crisis in Venezuela.

In interview with The PeruvianDe Zela explained that, within the framework of the Binational Migration Policy Committee with Chile, it was agreed to reinforce the borders of both countries through greater military and police presence, increased patrols and the installation of video surveillance systems.

He explained that there is a protocol between the police of Peru and Chile to avoid irregular departures and, if they occur, return the migrants to the country of origin of the displacement.

The objective, he stressed, is to guarantee a “regular, safe and orderly” migration.
The chancellor was emphatic in pointing out that, if a foreign citizen does not meet the entry requirements, “they will simply not be allowed to enter,” warning that the country’s capabilities “are exceeded.”

Likewise, he reported that similar coordination is maintained with Ecuador, following that country’s decision to concentrate the border crossing with Peru in Huaquillas, and announced that it seeks to replicate these agreements with all neighboring countries, adapting them to the reality of each border.

De Zela stressed that Peru promotes active coordination with its neighbors to prevent migration crises and strengthen border control, under the common principle of legal and orderly migration.
