He Chancay mega portcurrently in the final phase of its constructionreceived the first container ship at its facilities, as part of operational tests for cargo movement. The arrival of the ship marks a milestone in the preparation of the port, whose inauguration is scheduled for November 2024 at the APEC Economic Leaders Summit.
The ship, named Yantian, with a length of 350 meters and a width of 42.8 meters, set sail from the Port of San Antonio in Chile on September 16 with its final destination in Manzanillo, Mexico. Taking advantage of its route, it made a stop at the port developed by Cosco Shipping Ports Peru, where 1,700 containers were moved, using state-of-the-art automated equipment that was installed in five previous phases.
This operation makes Yantian the first cargo ship to be serviced at the Port of Chancay.
Relevance
The Chinese ambassador to Peru, Song Yang, highlighted the importance of the port in the framework of trade relations between China and Latin America, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
During his speech, he stressed the strategic importance of the Port of Chancay as a new maritime-land trade corridor between both continents, echoing President Xi Jinping’s words on the need to strengthen cooperation to ensure the successful completion of this project.
“This port is a great gift to the world presented by Peru, as host of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting 2024,” Song Yang emphasized.
