On Tuesday, September 6, the UEFA Champions League group stage will begin. In this note we tell you how much are the millions that clubs receive for playing this European tournament.

For this year, UEFA will distribute 2,732 million euros, of which €2.032 million will be distributed to clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.

465 million euros will be distributed to the clubs that participate in the UEFA Europa League and 235 million euros will go to the clubs that play the first edition of the new tournament, the UEFA Europa Conference League.

How much money do clubs earn for playing in the Champions League?

Each team receives €15.64 million for participating in the group stage.

In addition, in this first group stage, each squad will receive 2.8 million euros for each victory, 930,000 euros if they tie and nothing in the case of losing.

Then, in the knockout rounds, the breakdown will be as follows:

  • Classification for the round of 16: 9.6 million euros.
  • Classification for the quarterfinals: 10.6 million euros.
  • Classification for the semifinals: 12.5 million euros.
  • Classification for the final: 15.5 million euros.
  • Champions Champion: 4.5 million euros.

In this way, the champion is guaranteed a floor of 68 million euros

How much will the club earn if they win everything?

In the hypothetical case that a team wins all its matches in the group stage and progresses through different rounds, until it becomes champion, it will receive the maximum possible prize money from UEFA.

The club would earn 15.6 million euros for participating, 16.8 million euros for their six wins in the group stage, plus 9.6 million for being in the round of 16, 10.6 million euros if they enter the quarterfinals, 12.5 million euros for being in the semi-finals, 15.5 million euros if he is a finalist and 4.5 million euros more if he is champion.

In total, the team that establishes itself as the winner of all the matches of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League will pocket 85 million euros.
