Chamber of the Senate will review this Tuesday and Wednesday the reform that enables a new constituent process

The Chamber of the Senate will review this Tuesday and Wednesday the reform that enables a new constituent process. This, after the Constitution Commission of the Corporation approved the project in particular on December 29.

The Senate will review the project in five sessions: two on Tuesday and three on Wednesday -the last call on this day will be until full dispatch-. For its approval, the initiative requires a quorum of 4/7, that is, 29 favorable votes.

The Senate Constitution Committee approved advancing the elections of the councilors -who will make up the Constitutional Council-, from May 14, 2023 to the 7th of the same month, because the original date coincided with Mother’s Day.

Given this scenario, the instance modified some aspects of the initiative to avoid a very limited process. The original project contemplated that the closing of the electoral registry was the 120th day before the election. However, the Servel warned that this date was “dangerous”, since it forced Congress to approve the project this week.

Given the warning, the Constitution Commission approved reducing the term to 100 days. With this, Congress must dispatch the reform before January 27.
