Santo Domingo, DR – The Chamber of Deputies held the “Kidney and Prostate Health” conference this Thursday as part of its orientation and continuous training program, in the IDPAL Hall of the National Congress.
The event, given by the prominent internist and nephrologist Alfredo Polanco del Orbesought to raise awareness about the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment of kidney and prostate diseases, which affect more than 10% of the world’s population and a significant number of Dominican men over 40 years of age.
At the opening, the director of Human Resources, Darwin Ovalles, highlighted the institution’s commitment to the well-being of its collaborators. “The health It’s the first thing; Without it, what can we expect from our colleagues?” he expressed, thanking the specialist for his participation.

Ovalles stressed that these activities promote a culture of prevention and self-care, noting that “we all know someone affected by these diseases, and we want to promote prevention in time.”
During his presentation, Dr. Polanco explained that the poor functioning of the prostate, as in cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia or cancercan cause serious kidney damage. “Early diagnosis saves lives. Many patients arrive in advanced stages, when the damage is irreversible,” he warned.
In addition, he highlighted that prostate cancer has a double risk for those who have a family history, and urged annual urological check-ups starting at age 40, emphasizing that “prevention and education are key to a better quality of life.”
