The Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved this Tuesday a new extension -of 15 days- to the State of Exception for the provinces of Biobío and Arauco, in the Biobío region, and all of La Araucanía. Only the approval of the Senate remains for the extension of the measure to be finalized.
The Chamber of the Lower House approved the extension -requested by the Government of President Gabriel Boric– with 113 votes in favour, 19 against and four abstentions.
The Government issued the measure for the first time on May 16, 2022. Later, it was extended by decree. Subsequently, in compliance with the constitutional order, he asked Congress to extend the State of Exception. This has happened eight times.
The last extension approved by Congress is valid until October 28. In the event that the Senate supports the request of the Executive, it would last for 15 more days.
The Upper House will review the Government’s request in the afternoon.
