Chamber of Commerce suggests a Fire Station within the Free Zone

Judith Pena | January 10, 2023

The Colon Chamber of Commerce ruled on the fire that occurred on the morning of January 10, 2023 within the France Field sector in the Colon Free Zone.

The businessmen affirmed that it is not only a matter of economic losses but also of injured workers and more so with the high unemployment rate that already affects the Province.

Faced with the situation that the firefighters had to face due to the lack of hydrants and low water pressure, they called attention to the authorities to improve situations and problems that are not new.

“Let’s think about how we can continue to attract investment and be competitive in catastrophic and unfortunate situations like these, which not only scare away potential investors but also put the integrity of third parties at risk,” they said.

Additionally, they proposed to allocate budget and implement an urgent plan to improve water infrastructure to counteract fires with their respective maintenance plan.

They also ask to provide the Benemérito de Bomberos de Colón with better tools and a fire station within the Colon Free Zone.

From the Colón Chamber of Commerce they sent a message of solidarity to all the companies and workers that were affected today and praised the “heroic efforts of the Meritorious Fire Department who risked their lives to guarantee well-being and safety.”
