Chamber approves loans for US $ 127 million

On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies approved two loan contracts for an amount of 127 million 266 thousand 793 dollars to finance projects.

The first loan, of 97 million 266 thousand 793 dollars, is for the financing of the expansion project of the Eastern Aqueduct, Salinity Barrier and Transfer to Santo Domingo Norte, and the second is for the financing of the Civil Service Management Strengthening Program of the Dominican Republic.

The agreement for US $ 97,266,793.00, which had the favorable vote of 125 deputies of the 126 present, was signed on August 10 of this year between the Dominican Republic and the Andean Development Corporation (CAF). The document is divided into three components: it contemplates the expansion of the Eastern Aqueduct and transfer to Santo Domingo Norte; institutional strengthening; and administration.

With the expansion of the works, it is intended to improve the continuity of the service for the sectors of the Santo Domingo Este and Santo Domingo Norte municipalities, going to an installed capacity of 4m3 / s to 6m3 / s.

On the other hand, the US $ 30,000,000.00 contract, approved with 87 votes in favor and 9 against, was signed on August 10, 2021, between the Dominican Republic and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Its general objective is to improve the efficiency of the public sector by strengthening and developing human resource management in the country’s civil service.

Both initiatives are proposals of the Executive Power and will go to the Senate of the Republic for its review and approval.

Supplementary budget

The Chamber of Deputies also approved the bill that modifies laws No. 237-20 of December 2, 2020, and No. 166-21 of August 6, 2021, of the General State Budget for the year 2021 and its addendum submitted by the Executive Power on November 18, 2021.

The initiative, which is now going to the Senate, had the favorable vote of 99 deputies, 37 against and five who abstained from voting.

It is highlighted that President Luis Abinader sent an addendum to correct some involuntary errors contained in the modification project.
