The plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday (5) the provisional measure that determines the installation of sanitary barriers to try to prevent the spread of covid-19 in indigenous areas. The matter goes to the Senate and needs to be approved by the 17th so as not to lose its validity.
The text assigns Funai to be responsible for planning and implementing actions to control sanitary barriers. In addition, the agency will be responsible for paying per diems to the members of these barriers until December 31, 2022, the final date of validity of the measure.
The MP provides that sanitary barriers must be composed of federal public servants, military personnel, or public servants from the states and municipalities that make up the structure, provided that they are authorized by the respective governors and mayors.
For the MP’s rapporteur, deputy Airton Faleiro (PT-PA), “the numerous threats registered against Funai employees and collaborators who work in the protection of indigenous lands with the presence of isolated and recently contacted Indians justify the need for continuous support from the public security officers”.

The deputies also approved the provisional measure that increases from three to five the number of members of the collegiate board of the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq), with the creation of two directors for the entity’s council. The matter goes to the Senate.
The text also needs to be approved by the senators by October 17th so as not to lose its effectiveness. The proposal also creates six advisory positions to support the new boards.
Antaq operates in the inspection of ports, maritime navigation, and support for inland navigation.
