Nearly 5 billion people use the internet worldwide. According to the study Digital 2022: Global Overview Report, the 4.95 billion users represent 62.5% of the world’s population, who use the web to entertain themselves, watch the news and get information. They are people, companies and government agencies producing information and disseminating it on the web. But how to filter and interpret all the information that is produced? This is where data science comes in.
In the government sector, this work increases transparency in public administration, social control and supervision, says Solange Oliveira Rezende, a researcher in Artificial Intelligence from the Computer Science department at ICMC/USP. According to her, there is a great effort to improve the Open Data Policy, to make government open data available. For computer engineer Alex Lopes Pereira, data science in public administration has great potential to improve the effectiveness of public power and help Brazilians make better decisions.
To discuss this issue, the Federal Comptroller General (CGU) is collecting papers for the special dossier Data Science in Public Administration: Challenges and Opportunities. The call is open until July 18.
Scientific articles, revisional essays or technical reports will be accepted in areas such as: data science and government auditing; data science and public policy evaluation; technological innovations in public management resulting from the pandemic and applications for e-government.
According to the magazine’s editor, Flávia Lemos Xavier, the objective of the publication involves three axes: inducer in topics of interest to CGU, connector with the scientific community and innovator by promoting the application of knowledge to administrative practice. “The magazine is part of CGU’s strategic knowledge management, with influence throughout the public administration,” she said.
