He Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration (CFCRL) closely follows the renewal process of the National Committee of the Oil Workers Union of the Mexican Republic (STPRM) and although they recognize that there is a process of change with the introduction of the secretary vote, which for the first time is used in the change of leadership, they also warn that things do not change overnight, “especially in unions that “They have a tradition of many decades of what their loyalties are to their leaders.”
This was stated by the general director of the CFCRL, Alfredo Domínguez Marrufo, in an interview with The Economistafter explaining that the union itself opened an extension – until the end of October 14 – so that the lists interested in participating could fully comply with the requirements imposed by the same call that was published on October 7 and whose electoral process will be on October 28.
He explained that loyalties to the leaders have weighed heavily in the processes of union change, in the case of the oil workers, “they have helped them to be temporary (eventual), then to obtain the base or the plant, and then to obtain a credit, a home, a scholarship, they have given employment to their relatives, in such a way that the workers continue to support the leader. This happens in the Oil Union, but also in electricians and others like that where there are quite generous collective contracts with benefits that many of the other unions do not have.”
At the sectional level, Domínguez Marrufo highlighted, some changes have already been registered and he recalled that in the renewal of the 36 union sections of the oil workers The process had to be reinstated in four union sections, but at the national level the groups that could be competitive have not been formed, and they apply “the old known is better than new unknown.”
Faced with the insufficiencies in the documents of three forms, the electoral commission gave 24 hours to collect the requirements such as gender proportionality, they do not include enough women, they had to replace those portfolios; Others of them apparently did not have complete candidates, apparently they were missing 50 or 60 candidates on the roster for the different positions, given that it is a union of every 100,000 workers.
For this reason, the electoral commission opened an extension in “the interest of participation and maximum democracy, and inclusion, more time can be given.”
He reiterated that the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration will make the pertinent observations, “registration is the power of the Union, unless it is necessary, like three years ago when the union sections were changed, not because the votes were miscounted. , but it was because they did not give access to one of the forms.”
