Ten days after an explosion at the company Innove Química, in Sertãozinho, the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo (Cetesb) reported that it issued a fine worth R$ 16.75 million to the company for environmental damage with aggravating factors: the existence of victims and of impacts on the community.
The explosion occurred during the transshipment of cargo from a supplier truck and left three people dead. Two workers were outsourced and performed the role of “plata” (hired on a contract basis to unload cargo). The other victim is a direct employee of the company, who was operating a forklift at the time of the accident and died yesterday (20) at the Hospital das Clínicas in Ribeirão Preto – considered a reference in burn treatments.
Sertãozinho city council confirmed that at least 5 houses suffered damage and are undergoing renovations, while another residence is under reconstruction, as it was destroyed after the accident.
The causes of the accident have not yet been clarified. According to the state Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP), the case is investigated by the Sertãozinho Police Station.
