César Pérez: "My museum seeks national identity between children and adults"

It has more than 2 thousand historical military pieces of great value. César Pérez Zúñiga is a collector and history buff, he belonged to the Meritorious Civil Guard of Peru, where he learned to love the country and to preserve national symbols. Here the interview.

How do you have the hobby of implementing the museum? By genetics, since my great-grandfather, Sgt. Major of the Peruvian Army, Pablo Pérez Camphel. I fight in the Zepita Battalion No. 2 of Cuzco, commanded by Crl. Andres Avelino Caceres. I began to collect cartridge by cartridge, at the CIGC in Chorrillos. When I was going to be a police officer.

Are all the pieces original, how did you get them? Of course, 100% of the pieces are unpublished, and historical, from the time of the Guano and Salitre wars.

Which of the objects is the rarest and of greatest historical value? There are many, but the one of relevance is the saber with which I fight, giving his blood and life the Crl. Mariano Bustamante Mantilla, Chief of Staff of the Plaza de Arica, who heroically defended our territory from the invading army in the Battle of the same name.

Has your museum been taken to different places, with the pandemic has it stopped, is there now the prospect of being itinerant? It was always itinerant in appearance, being exhibited in the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, in the Port Authority of Ilo, in the Railway Museum in Mollendo, in the District Municipality of Cocachacra, slowing down due to the pandemic, but today we are resuming the normal.

Is it a way of teaching history to children and young people? Of course, not only children and young people, but all citizens in general, since some remember it and most learn it as an experiential experience.

Do you receive any incentives from the Government or from the Peruvian Army itself? None, not even from the central government. Not regional government. Nor local, since culture and education in our country is the last item, to say the least, of the Peruvian Army, there is a certain mutual rapprochement, where all its operational units are visiting it, showing interest in promoting and acquiring an identity patriotic

Will it continue to increase these valuable objects of our ancestors? Of course, I will never stop doing it as long as I live, since it was in my blood, I repeat, I am a descendant of an anonymous hero, my great-grandfather, and I am a patriot who humbly tries to teach, spread, encourage, promote, rescue, preserve , cultivate and others our history, in order to achieve a patriotic and national identity that we need so much today.
