A new complaint shakes the leader of the political party Alianza Para el Progreso (APP), Cesar Acuna. As revealed by the Cuarto Poder journalistic program, the regional governor of La Libertad would have used a front man to acquire a property in 2016 located in the district of Jesús María, next to his main headquarters in the capital, for 1 million 200 thousand dollars. which, at the change of date, reached almost 4 million soles.

The front man would be Juan José Canales Durand, an APP activist and, also, current chief of staff of the Ombudsman’s Office, appointed to the position by the Ombudsman, Josué Gutiérrez. At the time he purchased the property, Acuña was in the middle of the presidential campaign, a campaign from which he was excluded for handing out handouts to voters.
The investigation indicates that two years after acquiring the property, Canales went to a notary to declare César Acuña as the true owner. When asked by the reporter, Canales replied that the money with which he bought the property was not his, but rather that of the Acuña boss.
In this regard, criminal lawyer Luis Lamas Puccio maintained that this operation “can become an indication to presume that there has been a covert operation to prevent a person from being identified.”
Canales, a trusted man of Acuña, is also being investigated for the alleged commission of the crime of money laundering, and faces a dismissal process and another for having been linked to a criminal gang of women that illegally took minors abroad. .
Additionally, Canales mentioned that the property belonged to “three older people” who had a certain rejection towards APP because next door, in the group’s main base, rallies and meetings were held that caused them discomfort. Therefore, they did not want to sell the property to Acuña. “In addition, they asked for a lot of things, Mr. Acuña is a busy person, that’s why he asked me,” he explained.
He denied being a front man and, rather, said he had a representation contract in favor of César Acuña, through which he was commissioned to buy that asset. After purchasing the home, Canales began to win juicy contracts for lawyer services in the same regional government of La Libertad, which was also managed by APP. Between 2017 and 2018, more than 240 thousand soles were awarded.
