He disappeared during the political crisis that led to the vacancy of the president of the Republic, Dina Boluarte. but yesterday César Acuña Peraltathe owner of Alianza para el Progreso (APP), was once again present on the political scene and did so to distance himself from his now former political partner, whom this time he did not hesitate to criticize because — he said — “he did not have clear policies to reverse the issue of insecurity.”
“The people could no longer stand much fear, every day, therefore the decision of Congress was to vacate it and have a new president,” he told reporters today.
The leader of APP, a group that had several militants in high public positions and also two others in ministerial portfolios: César Vásquez in Health and César Sandoval in Transport and Communications, justified his change in political position. Until recently – it is remembered – its congressmen shielded the members of the ministerial cabinet by refusing to support interpellations and censures.
Why this change in attitude? He was asked, to which he responded that it was because his party “listens to the population.”
“Before we were looking for stability, now more than that it is security, a sense of responsibility,” he argued, adding that this position “is a demonstration that we have not been supporting the president but rather the government, the population.”
Given his expressions, the journalists questioned this double discourse that Dina Boluarte’s government was dealing with until Thursday. “I don’t change my speech, the results are there,” he replied.
Jerí’s responsibility
Regarding the new President of the Republic by constitutional succession, José Jerí, Acuña commented that “he has a great responsibility to respond to the expectations of Peruvians.”
“(He) has the great responsibility of making a great cabinet that will help him, during those months until July 28, 2026, to reverse the instability of Peru, to reverse the insecurity,” he said.
Regarding the election of Jerí despite having a complaint for alleged sexual violation, which has already been filed, Acuña said briefly: “that must be asked of the 130 congressmen.”
