César Acuña announces that he will run for the Presidency of the Republic

César Acuña Peraltafounder and leader of the Alliance for Progress (APP) party, made official his resignation from the position of regional governor of La Libertad with the aim of running for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2026 general elections.

Acuña’s decision was made on the last day of the deadline established by the National Elections Jury (JNE) for the acting authorities to seek to participate in the electoral process.

This will be the third time that César Acuña seeks to reach the Government Palace, after his candidacies in 2016 and 2021. In both processes, APP consolidated its presence in Congress and in regional governments, especially in the north of the country.

“I address all Peruvians from the humility and vocation for service that has always defined my political activity as a congressman, mayor and governor to announce that I have decided to run for the Presidency of the Republic to put my experience at the service of Peru,” says the statement signed by Acuña.

FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION

The questioned politician points out that he feels satisfied, and that he leaves a “legacy with projects that will transform the lives of Liberteños and with the firm conviction of duty fulfilled.”

“Starting today I will work to promote a deep and necessary reform that allows us to fight head-on against insecurity, reactivate the economy, create two million jobs in five years and fight against corruption relentlessly,” says Acuña.

Dina Boluarte’s former ally says he wants to “banish corruption forever in Peru and recover hope of building a prosperous future for all Peruvians.”
