Cerro Largo: mayor of the National Party charged with aggravated sexual abuse of an older adult

The nationalist mayor of the municipality of Cerro de las Cuentas, Cerro Largo, Humberto Allende, was charged with the crime of especially aggravated sexual abuse, as decided by the 2nd shift Cerro Largo prosecutor, Letizia Siqueira.

The white hierarch was ordered to establish a domicile as a measure, according to the newspaper El País, citing the director of Communication of the Prosecutor’s Office, Javier Benech.

Allende was denounced after the 2019 electoral campaign, when he was elected mayor, and the complainant is now 80 years old. The prosecutor had told the aforementioned medium last week that they had not reached “any agreement” with the mayor, who flatly denies the accusations, so she decided to charge him to reach the trial instance.

“There is no risk of escape, frustration of the test or intimidation of the victim,” sources from the Prosecutor’s Office told Montevideo Portal.

New municipality, new mayor

Mayor Allende is the leader of the sector of the mayor of Cerro Largo, José Yurramendi, and of the nationalist senator, Sergio Botana. He is the first elected mayor of the municipality of Cerro de las Cuentas, which was created only in 2018.

Recently there was a controversy because it was news that he was going to officiate the first marriage as mayor of said municipality, but he was informed before the ceremony that he could not carry it out because the bridegroom was his son, and because of the bond he was illegitimate.
