The Ceres Leading Index (ILC) started the year with favorable data. After two months with negative values, the indicator reversed the trend in January with a growth minimum of 0.1%.
The record was in line with the Diffusion Index which in January stood at 50%, which meant that more than half of the variables that comprise it grew in the last month of 2022.
The last survey on the evolution of the indicators showed that 2022 exports were record with the agricultural sector as the engine.
Another element was that the summer season showed a good level of activity, being the first without sanitary restrictions after the covid-19 pandemic. Another was that industrial production grew in November, in the seasonally adjusted measurement, although it was lower compared to a year ago.
The ILC is a leading indicator of the level of activity, which is used to predict changes in the economic cycle, for this reason it does not allow quantitative projections on the levels of economic activity, but is designed to give signals about the sign of evolution general economic activity.
