The Digital Observatory of Femicides of the Center for Justice and Peace (Cepaz), documented six femicides in the first week of February.
“We have documented six completed femicides and six frustrated ones in Venezuela. Every 14 hours a femicidal action occurred during this period.” Cepaz warned in a report.
Impunity in cases of violence against women is repeated. In most cases there is no effective investigation, there is no sanction against the aggressor or effective reparation for the victim.
The organization reiterated that in Venezuela there is a need for a formal national statistics system, that makes the data public and freely accessible and reflects the advances in the investigation and sanction of the cases.
Also to publicize the figures and official records of femicides and data that reflect not only the number of cases, but the specific causes and the aforementioned phenomena associated with them.
“Only in this way will it be possible to advance in the construction of policies for the prevention of femicidal violence with a multisectoral, interdisciplinary and interinstitutional approach, which defines responsibilities and actions and which is public knowledge,” the organization emphasized in a note reviewed by runrunes.
