The NGO Cepaz recorded 10 acts of harassment and threats against journalists and the media. These attacks were registered from digital accounts linked to the Maduro administration
The Center for Justice and Peace (Cepaz) during the month of January 2023 recorded 187 cases of persecution against workers of the press and media, human rights defenders, civil society organizations, people linked to politics and against the general citizenship.
In the NGO’s opinion, cases against citizens are the most difficult to quantify in monthly monitoring due to the number of victims involved.
Cepaz recorded 18 acts of criminalization against press and media workers. An example of this was the order to cease transmissions, by the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), of the station Kalidad 90.3 FM located in the Fernández Feo municipality of Táchira state.
After Kalidad 90.3 FM went off the air, only one radio station remains operational in that municipality.

The NGO also recorded 10 acts of harassment and threats against journalists and the media. These attacks were recorded from digital accounts linked to the Maduro administration.
In another case, the governor of Trujillo attacked the The Andes Newspaper for three informative notes where they denounced the harassment against public workers, who were being forced to participate in the pro-government demonstrations on January 23.
In January there were also seven impediments to recording a news event.
Cepaz expressed that it will continue with its work of documentation and denunciation through the monthly monitoring of cases of persecution and criminalization. In addition, they alerted citizens that, given a pre-electoral context and the threat of loss of power through the massive and organized participation of the population, the exercise of the bosses and the number of victims could be deepened.
