Central Highway collapses due to the passage of hundreds of units from Lima to the center of the country

Once again, the Central Highway demonstrated that it is not capable of receiving hundreds of vehicles coming to the central area for the long holiday, since this Friday, traffic on this road was very slow and restricted due to the large number of vehicles of all types and sizes that passed through it from Lima to the center of the country and vice versa.

In the La Oroya sector, there were several critical points and bottlenecks. One of them was the Marcavalle sector and another was generated at the Tarma bus stop, the entrance zone to the Central Jungle. Tourists from the capital were mostly travelling in private vans. Several groups also arrived who travelled together on motorcycles.

The arrival of the visitors was planned in the central jungle, from Tarma to Chanchamayo and Satipo. They were also expected to arrive in the regions of Pasco and Huánuco; while another important group was looking to reach the Mantaro valley from Jauja to Huancayo.

The traffic jam was so great that just passing through the city of La Oroya took them up to two hours.

According to passengers, the bus fares have increased by almost 400%. From Lima to Huancayo, depending on the time, fares range from S/100 to S/150.

Vehicles that provide service from La Oroya to various cities in the center also increased the cost of tickets by almost 50%, charging S/20 for a minivan to Huancayo and S/30 for a car. S/20 for a car to Tarma and up to S/40 for other points in the central jungle.

On the other hand, fares to Lima dropped considerably, while cars charge up to S/20, buses carry passengers for S/10. The vehicles were empty, waiting to reach the capital.

Once again, the announcement by the Deviandes company and the Superintendency of Land Transport (Sutran) that the transit of vehicles over 3.5 tons will not be permitted on Friday, July 27, was a dead letter. The heavy units passed as if nothing had happened on the Central Highway, further delaying the passage of other vehicles due to their size.
