The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) put into circulation a new S/1 coin. This is the fourth in the numismatic series “Peruvian Pre-Columbian Ceramics”, corresponding to the Nasca culture.
In the central part of the obverse of the coin, you can see the Coat of Arms of Peru surrounded by the legend “BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERU”, as well as the year of minting and an eight-sided inscribed polygon that forms the face of the coin.
For its part, on the reverse there is the image of a ceramio (sculptural jug) of a mythical anthropomorphic being supported by two characters. This is one of the most complex representations of a Nasca deity. At the top are the words “NASCA CULTURE”, and at the bottom the denomination in number and the name of the monetary unit. Also visible on the right is a geometric design of vertical lines and the mark of the National Mint and on the left side, the phrase “PRE-COLOMBIAN CERAMICS”.
According to the BCR, this collection, which consists of 11 coins, seeks to disseminate the country’s cultural heritage, as well as encourage numismatic culture. “This currency is legal tender, so it can be used in any economic transaction and will circulate simultaneously with current ones,” he said.
“This culture occupied the valleys of the southern coast of Peru, in the current department of Ica, its ceramics stand out for the polychrome in their designs and abstract themes that are objectively complex,” he highlighted.
In addition, he reported that starting today it will be put on sale with cases containing the currency, which can be purchased only on the entity’s sales portal. (https://tiendavirtual.bcrp.gob.pe/tiendabcrp/).
